Doha: Aspire Park was one of the major venues to host people, especially families, to mark National Sport Day safely yesterday. Adhering to COVID-19 measures and instructions issued by the authorities concerned visitors carried out physical exercises individually.
Majority of the visitors preferred walking and running on jogging tracks of Aspire Park. Some people were also spotted plying footballs and volleyballs withing their small groups of family members. Security personnel were deployed to instruct visitors to maintain social distance and stop gathering. Security personnel in club cars were seen patrolling and monitoring the situation.
Young children in sport dress indulged in sport activities and physical exercises. Families taking hands of their small kids were also spotted jogging creating a culture of sports and exercise in their children since childhood.
“Qatar National Sport Day is very important to educate people about the importance of sports and exercise in their life, Syed Mohamad Yaqub, a Pakistani national told The Peninsula
He said that on this day every year a large number of people come out of their homes to mark the day in sport venues, public parks, Corniche and beaches. “We need to utilize this day to make exercises and sport activities a habit and daily routine to lead a healthy life. I encourage my children and took them to parks whenever I get time especially at weekend,” said Yaqub.
Aspire Park opened in the morning to receive the visitors on National Sport Day which is a favourite place for people who love exercise.
“I used to visit Aspire Park for many years. I celebrate Qatar National Sport Day with my family there every year by playing different games with my children,” said a visitor, Sadiq Abdul Aziz Ahmad. He said usually Aspire Park attracted large number of people but this year because of pandemic less people came to the park. Another visitor Ahamd Al Qutaiba said that he visits Aspire Park regularly for physical exercise to keep him fit and healthy.
“I came to Aspire Park today to confirm the importance of Qatar National Sport Day in the life of people,” said Al Qutaiba.
He lauded government of Qatar for dedicating a day to educate people about the importance of exercise for fitness and health.
