Doha: Barwa Bank, Qatar’s fastest growing Shariah-compliant bank, has been named winner of the Islamic Business and Finance Awards for “Best Bank”, “Best Branding” and “Best Domestic Corporate Bank in the Region” at the awards ceremony held at Jumeirah Emirates Tower hotel, Dubai.

Barwa Bank CEO Steve Troop, Head of Marketing Diane Alphonse, Head of Retail Hussain Al Abdullah, and Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Thani from Corporate Banking attended the ceremony.

Troop said on the occasion:  “Receiving “Best Bank” - not simply nationally or regionally but on the international stage -  is a very significant achievement and one that all of the team at Barwa Bank are especially proud of: we feel that we are contributing to the growth and perception of Islamic Banking, not just regionally, but internationally as well.”

Alphonse spoke about winning “Best Branding”: “Our brand aims at communicating with customers in a new and fresh way, which represents the innovative approach that we are adopting towards our customers and to Shari’ah compliant banking. I am delighted to see that this was appreciated by both customers and our industry peers.”

On the final award of the evening Troop commented: “Despite being a relatively new bank, we were able to win “Best Domestic Corporate Bank in the Region” due to our strong presence in corporate finance and Islamic Capital Markets (DCM) and the capabilities and expertise of our teams.”

Meanwhile, First Finance Company (FFC), a member of Barwa Bank Group, won the “Best Finance House” award at the same event.

Eslah Assem, CEO of FFC and Abdullah Al Subaie, Head of Credit Facilities attended the event.

Assem said, “FFC takes great pride in this award, a recognition of our continuous effort to provide well designed finance options to our customers. FFC’s motto is simplicity, flexibility and care, and we will continue to ensure that we deliver on each of these important elements.”

FFC won this award for its innovative and focused products and services, including the recent launch of its SME campaign. FFC wants to support this sector’s growth and development, offering a wide range of bespoke, Shariah-compliant finance solutions.
