Qatar Exchange index drops 0.36 percent

DOHA: Qatar Exchange’s main  index lost 30.87 points or 0.36 percent last week to close at 8,572.75 points. Trading value last week increased by 42.05 percent to reach QR706m compared to QR497.22m the previous week. 

Trading volume increased by 60.04 percent to reach 14,969,954 shares, as against 9,353,680 shares, while the number of transactions rose by 36.27 percent to reach 10,737 last week compared to 7,879 transactions the previous week.

Market capitalisation fell by 0.78 percent to reach QR466.43bn last week compared to QR470bn at the end of previous week.

Of the 42 listed companies, 17 ended higher last week, while 22 fell and three remain unchanged. Industries Qatar led the trading value accounting for 20.37 percent of the total, followed by QNB (12.45 percent) and The Qatar for Meat and Livestock (11.99 percent).

The banking and financial services sector led trading value last week, accounting for 39.41 percent of the total, followed by the industrial sector (25.98 percent), the consumer goods and services sector (13.84 percent) and the real estate sector.

The banking and financial services sector led trading volume last week accounting for 48.9 percent of the total, followed by the transportation sector (11.51 percent), the industrial sector (11.37 percent) and the real estate sector.

The banking and financial services sector also led trading number of transactions last week accounting for 33.51 percent of the total, followed by the industrial sector (19.58 percent), the consumer goods and services sector (18.94 percent) and the transportation sector (12.91 percent).

For the day, the bourse was in the positive territory adding 2.45 points or 0.03 percent to advance to 8,572.75 points from 8,570.30 on Wednesday. 

Among the top gainers were Al Ahli Bank which was up 4.17 percent to QR55, Dlala was up 2.07 percent to QR34.50 and International Islamic was up 0.57 percent to QR53. Qatar Telecom rose 0.47 percent to QR106.60; General Insurance gained 1.84 percent to QR49.90 and United Development Company was up by 0.50 percent to QR17.99.

The banking and financial sector index was up 3.90 points, the consumer goods and services sector index gained 17.65 points, the industrial sector dropped by 2.94 points while the insurance sector added 4.77 points.
