Doha, Qatar: In a further attempt to attract Qatari citizens into the teaching profession, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) is providing academic advantages and big financial incentives under the “Tomouh” programme for this academic year, said a top official.
The Tomouh scholarship programme encourages holders of a high school diploma to join the teaching profession after graduation from the College of Education at Qatar University.
“The Tomouh programme has succeeded in graduating qualified teachers, enabling them to perform their jobs in a very professional way,” said Head of the Admissions and Registration Section at the Scholarship Department of MoEHE, Saleh Al Muftah, during an interview with Qatar TV recently.
According to him, this year is the best for Tomouh programme students in terms of providing academic privileges and financial incentives.
“Students get a monthly stipend during their study at the Tomouh programme and are offered jobs after completing the course,” said Al Muftah. “Students receive the biggest incentive this year since the launch of the programme. By joining the programme, a single student gets QR22,260 while those who are married receive QR25,200 per month as salary, and the years they spend in Education College will be counted in their service.”
He said that the incentive is very attractive as the programme received many inquiries from students and parents.
“The programme is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 to meet the ambitious goal of the country, which is investing in human resources,” said Al Muftah.
There are 16,266 teachers in government schools and 20,310 teachers in private schools in Qatar.
The Tomouh programme, launched in 2018 by MoEHE in partnership with Qatar University, aims to meet the labour market’s needs, especially in government institutions, and to appoint cadres of teachers at a high educational level.
The MoEHE honoured 184 graduates of the Tomouh programme for the 2024 academic year. The Ministry sponsors the programme in partnership with the College of Education at Qatar University to attract students with a high school diploma to the teaching profession in order to become future teachers and contribute to building their society and country.
MoEHE is also running a programme to provide training to Qatari teachers abroad.
The “Experiences” Program is one of the pioneering educational initiatives launched by the Ministry at the beginning of the academic year 2023-2024. This qualitative training program aligns with the goals and objectives of the Human Development Pillar in Qatar’s National Vision, aiming to invest in the human element.
It achieves this by sending Qatari academic professionals abroad to gain expertise and the opportunity to explore best practices in teaching within different learning environments.
