Doha: Qatar National Library (QNL) received a selection of books from the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in Qatar and the BiH community during a ceremony held recently at the library.

The event was attended by H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Minister of State, and QNL President, Ivana Pejovic, Chargé d’Affaires and interim of  the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina  and Ali Turkovic, Counselor at the Embassy, as well as representatives from the BiH community.

The book donations are part of several collaborations aimed at enhancing and strengthening relations between Qatar and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The selected books given will teach readers about the people of BiH and their history, art, culture, business, finance and science.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr Al Kawari said: “As a center of learning, research and culture, we have always been keen to provide educational and cultural opportunities throughout Qatar and the world. The books donated cover various topics, disciplines and areas that will help the community in Qatar expand their knowledge about Bosnia and Herzegovina and its people.”

“We are grateful to the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the BiH community for their special donation and hope these books will stimulate positive thinking and inspire creativity among readers,” he added.

The books include Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Changing World Order, an excellent and concise account by Dr Bisera Turkovic, the current Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, about the frictions within the former Yugoslavia and the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina after the breakdown of the communist regime; The Cat I Never Named: A True Story of Love, War, and Survival, a captivating memoir of a Muslim teen struggling to survive the Bosnian genocide and the stray cat who protected her family through it all; Biografija Alija Izetbegovic, a biography by Isakovic Zehrudin of Alija Izetbegović, a Bosnian politician, activist, lawyer, author, and philosopher who in 1992 became the first President of the Presidency of the newly independent Republic of BiH; and Bosnia: A Short History, which provides readers with a comprehensive narrative history of Bosnia in English.

As part of its aim to promote imagination, discovery and nourishment to the human spirit, QNL will continue to invest its efforts to share knowledge and empower future generations across and beyond Qatar.
