DOHA: Qatar’s Abdulaziz Abdulla grabbed pole position in yesterday’s qualifying session in the second round of the Qatar National Road Racing Championship (QNRRCH).
The Qatari dominated yesterday’s proceedings, which took placed under the floodlights of Losail International Circuit.
A total of 11 drivers registered for this round from different nationalities which included Qatar, Australia, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Canada, USA and Philippines.
In the free practice, Abdulla was the fastest. Abdulla, driving a Porsche Carrera made a time of 2.24.132. With a very close time sheet, Talal Wehbe made the second best time, 2.24.724.
In the qualifying session, Abdulla followed on from his fastest practice time to grab pole position with a time of 2.22.783 and will start in first place in the starting grid today.
In the second place of the grid, there will be Pavel Nedobity from Czech Republic with a Lotus car.
The leader of the championship is the Australian driver Talal Wehbe with his Lotus Exige in the Open category.
The Qatari drivers Nasser Al Abdula and Saif Al Naimi are second and third respectively in the standings.
The race will be held today at 7:15pm with a total of 10 laps at the Losail International Circuit track.
