The Advisor for Education at Private Schools Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Rashid Al Awda Al Fadli, has said that the international tests are mandatory for all targeted groups of students.
“International tests are for all schools operating in the country including private schools,” said Al Fadli while speaking in a Qatar TV programme yesterday.
Speaking about the selection of schools and students for the tests, Al Fadli said the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by Section for International Tests of the Students Evaluation Department, sends names of students and schools of targeted groups to the international organisations to select schools and students and to decide when and how the test will be conducted.
“The international tests 2021- Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), are scheduled to take place in March and April, 2021,” said Al Fadli.
Speaking about the support of the Ministry to private sector for international tests, Al Fadli said that private schools are part of the education system of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
“We provide necessary documents, results of the previous tests and hold training programme for private schools which were selected for the tests,” said Al Fadli.
He said that department concerned at the Ministry also encourage private schools for the tests and educate them about the importance of these tests and ensure their readiness enabling students take the tests smoothly.
“PIRSL test focuses on the skills of students in reading Arabic and English. This year, we will conduct pilot PISA test which will focus on evaluating the skills of students and their scholastic performance on mathematics, science, and reading,” said Al Fadli.
He said TMSS will he held under international organisations to evaluate the performance of the students. “Eighteen private schools have been selected out of 42 schools to participate in the pilot Pisa 2021 test and 173 private schools out of 266 schools to participate in the PIRLS 2021 test,” said Al Fadli.
