DOHA: SalamAir, Oman’s first budget airline, yesterday opened its first office in Doha to help better service the increasing demand for flights between Oman and Doha. Opening of the new office follows a strong interest among passengers for airline’s Doha-Muscat route.

“We started our flights from Doha to Muscat in November last year. In less than 10 months, we have carried almost 100,000 passengers between the two cities. It is a big achievement for us. The number of flights between Doha-Muscat has increased from five flights per week earlier to two daily flights now,” Mazin Ahmed Al Salmani, Commercial Director of Salam Air told The Peninsula, speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of airline’s new office in Najma.

Najib bin Yahya Al Balushi, Ambassador of Oman to Qatar, and other officials were present during the inauguration ceremony.

“The inauguration of this office is a landmark moment in the ongoing progression and expansion of SalamAir and emphasises the strong bond between our organisation and our partners in Doha. With increasing air traffic and economic activity between Qatar and Oman, the demand for a more convenient and affordable alternative is higher than ever and we are proud to be meeting demand with our offering,” said Captain Mohamed Ahmed, CEO of SalamAir. “As an agile operator we will continue to look at how we enhance this service which is a giant step towards achieving our vision of increasing connectivity to thriving tourism and commercial hubs in the region,” he added.

The new route is attracting strong interest because it offers guests convenient timing, affordable travel alternatives and connectivity to a wider network of destinations, said Al Salmani

The opening of the Doha office complements SalamAir’s continued expansion that has resulted in increasing its frequency from and to Doha to reach 14 flights a week and the addition of four new destinations - Najaf, Khartoum, Dhaka, Kathmandu. The airline also operates flights to Muscat, Salalah, Suhar, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot, Shiraz.

SalamAir recently signed during Farnborough airshow for 6 additional airbus A320neo to be delivered during H1 2019 to meet the need of its expanding network of destinations.
