TASMU to provide comprehensive digital solutions for users: Minister

Qatar Smart Program (TASMU), would significantly enhance efforts by the government and private sector to coordinate and develop comprehensive digital solutions for users, H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communication, said during the launch of the TASMU Platform yesterday.

TASMU Platform is designed to utilize technology and innovations to provide smart and sustainable solutions and accelerate Qatar National Vision 2030. TASMU’s five top priority sectors include Transportation, Logistics, Environment, Healthcare, and Sports. It can be accessible from anywhere and at any time and is based on Azure Cloud, offering myriad Software-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service and Infrastructure-as-a-Service capabilities. 

“We have adopted a revolution in technology that will create a positive change at the economic and community level. TASMU will be a source of information for comprehensive analysis of every sector which is going to be supportive to decision making and also direct investment for economic revenue,” Al Sulaiti said. “The platform will also contribute to implementing the smart Qatar vision and implementing several applications through linked platforms to meet the users need and have effective services based on the understanding of the methodology of use to give a comprehensive and comfortable service.” 

Qatar has set its sights on making Doha a digital hub with its ambitious drive to diversify its economy from hydro-carbon-based to a more sustainable model. By 2023, digital spending in Qatar is projected to increase to $3.2bn.  The TASMU initiative would provide the digital economy a platform to drive its growth by empowering innovation and opportunities for start-ups. 

TASMU will reinforce the public and private sector in adopting ICT, leading to competitiveness in the economy enabling non-oil and gas GDP – to increase significantly. 

“Qatar’s strategy for smart and artificial intelligence is through the approach adopted in partnership with a think tank to benefit from AI. We have developed tech infrastructure, reinforced the internet services, and cater to the needs of our electronic government.

“We are number one in internet penetration at 99 percent. We are ranked second in the region when it comes to government electronic services in addition to the fact that Qatar is one of the first to use 5G technology with penetration of half the country,” the Minister added.

Al Sulaiti noted that Qatar has become a powerful competitor in ICT and information technology, one of the top 10 countries in communication adoption and ICT used in services and economic activities. Qatar is also ranked 21 in environmental capabilities and eco-system empowerment and the first worldwide in empowering persons with special needs.

H E Reem Mohammed Al Mansoori Assistant Undersecretary, Digital Society Development MoTC said TASMU would promote communication between government entities, businesses, and individuals across sectors, provide the public and private sectors with advanced technologies to develop smart solutions and applications that meet national KPIs.  It will also store and analyze national data and develop critical insights to support decision-making and resource management across all organizations in Qatar. Several TASMU smart solutions will operate on the TASMU Platform, including Virtual Consultation for healthcare, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health. 

The TASMU Platform also houses the TASMU Digital Farmer Community - an Environment smart solution developed in conjunction with the Agricultural Affairs Dept. of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)to assist farmers with professional advice on production planning, crop best practices, and pest and disease management. 

TASMU’s National Food Security Analytics smart solution, formed in collaboration with the Food Security Dept. at MME. It aims to use AI-driven decision-making capabilities and acts as a centralized database integrating insights from various stakeholders to provide recommendations to government officials and business owners that will help safeguard national food security.

H E Dr. Rana Abdullah Al Fares, Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Affairs of Kuwait, and several officials and stakeholders in the digital sector attended the hybrid event.
