Entries invited for 6th Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poet

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, started inviting entries for 6th Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poet. 

Deadline for submitting entries is November 1, 2022. The award jury selects 30 contestants for the final competitions through three qualifying stages – preliminary, semifinal and final. 

In the preliminary stage 15 participants will contest in the classical poetry category and 15 participants in the Nabati poetry category in three episodes provided that the jury selects five participants at the end of the episodes for each category who qualify for the semi-finals stage. In the semi-finals stage, three winners for the classical poetry category and three winners for the Nabati poetry category are selected.

Then, the rankings of the three winners of classical poetry category and the three winners of the Nabati poetry category will be announced, and the first winner for each category will be crowned with the title of the Prophet’s Poet at the award’s closing ceremony.

General Manager of Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said that Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poet has gained a good reputation in the Arab and Islamic worlds reflecting on steady increase in the number of participants from all over the world and of all age groups.

“The award continues to achieve its goals aimed at deepening the love of Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in the hearts of contemporary generations, especially with the increase in attacks targeting our true religion, by undermining our Noble Prophet (PBUH), in addition to the award’s role in encouraging, refining and developing young talents and taking the hand of young people to translate their genius into poems that serve Islam,” said Dr. Al Sulaiti. 

General Supervisor of Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poet, Khaled Abdul Rahim Al Sayyid said that the prize gained its fame and momentum from being the first prize in the Islamic world that allows poets to compete in praise of the Prophet in order to deepen the love of the Prophet. 

He said that in the hearts of contemporary generations surrounded by many ideas and currents that seek to motivate them to adhere to their religion and realize their duties towards their faith and Islamic teachings.

The final jury of classical and Nabati poetry will directly supervise all stages of the final qualifiers, leading to the announcement of the poet of the Prophet for the two categories of the award, classical and Nabati poetry.

The total prize money for Katara Prize for Prophet’s Poet is QR3.8m ($1.04m), in the classical and Nabati poetry categories, with an average of 3 prizes for each category. The winner of first place gets QR1m, and the second place winner receives QR600,000, the third place holder get QR300,000.
