Fresh stock of sporting equipment in large quantities has arrived in the local markets ahead of the National Sport Day (NSD) on Tuesday, February 14.
Various types of sporting goods are available at affordable prices in commercial outlets across the country, The Peninsula noted.
Some outlets offer discounts on sporting goods in a bid to cash in on the activities of that day, with the demand of sports products surging. A shopping centre on Salwa Road, near Industrial Area flyover, is offering footballs along with air-pump to attract the customers.
“We are ready for NSD,” manger of a shopping mall on Salwa Road told The Peninsula. “We had given special orders and received consignment last week,” said the manager.
“We have all types of sports goods at competitive prices,” said head of sports section at a shopping mall. “We are offering special discounts ahead of NSD. Wide selection of  volleyball, football and basketball equipment  are available at QR10 to QR20 as per the quality of the products. We also offer free air-pump on the purchase of specific footballs,” he added.
Demand for sports equipment has increased since last week, with all getting ready for the National Sport Day.
“We expect more customers this weekend as the NSD is very close. We have regular customers throughout the year. Many labourers come to us to buy sports goods related to volleyball, football and cricket as they have eight hours duty after which they are free. So most of them prefer to play some games during this time,” a salesman said.
“We have enough stock of sporting goods of different verities. There is no increase in prices of sport equipment this year compared to last year. Our prices are reasonable and suits all segments of community – individuals, families and workers. A small football is available at QR8. Prices of volleyballs and footballs range between QR22 and QR38. We have basketball at QR24. We showcased verities of cricket bats in the range QR40 to QR98. Badmintons rackets with three shuttles are available from QR15 to QR72,” an employee at one of the shops said.
Regarding demands of sports equipment on the occasion of NSD, the salesman said: “Some companies have bought sporting goods in bulks for their employees and workers.” Individual workers come mostly on Friday. Families prefer to buy goods on Sport Day in their way to picnicking places, according to the salesman.
