Doha: Kuwait will start “filtering” driving licences issued for expatriates, according to local media reports.
Kuwaiti newspaper Alanba revealed, according to a security source from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, that the traffic department gave directions to filter driving licenses granted to expatriates in particular.

The source told the newspaper that it is necessary to review all data of the driving licenses granted to expatriates and the extent to which they comply with the conditions.

For example, the source said “there are accountants and drivers who obtained driving licenses, when their salaries were 600 dinars and have a university qualification and they moved to another job with a salary of 400 dinars, in which case it will be withdrawn.

In Kuwait you need a minimum salary of KD 600 and university degree among other requirements to apply for a driving license unless you are in an exempted profession.
As for people who obtained the license as a driver, but later changed his profession that does not meet the eligibility requirements, will also lose their licences.

Kuwaiti had revoked driving licences of 32,000 expatriates in the first 10 months of 2021 on illegibility grounds.
There has been a decrease of 43% in issuing new driving licenses to expatriates since January to October 2021. From 72,000 driving licenses issued during same period of last year it dropped to 41,000, local media reported.
