Doha Film Institute has announced it would hold a workshop for emerging film talent in the region. The online workshop ‘Producers Lab’ will run from October 24-30 and be held in Arabic and English.

Participants will have to pay QR1500, while Qatar Museums Culture Pass members will receive a 10% discount on the fee, DFI announced. The deadline for application is September 25.

“This workshop is an opportunity for local and MENA-based producers to develop their skills further with experts in the field, in a small and intimate group of a maximum of 8-10 projects. Further, we hope to strengthen co-productions in the MENA region, to open networking opportunities, and to improve the overall quality of projects developed in the region,” DFI stated on its website.

The seven-day programme would focus on producing feature-length documentary and fiction films on the creative, artistic, and strategic aspects. Participants will gain deeper insight into various elements of film production and genuinely understand the role of a producer.

Also, organisers would select eight to 10 Qatar and MENA-based producers with a project in development.

The programme would cover an in-depth understanding of a producer’s role in all stages of film, understanding the responsibility of various producers, and an introduction to the producer’s approach to script and development. Other aspects of the programme include budget, applying for film funds, marketing strategies, pitch training, managing post-production, etc.

The workshop is designed for filmmakers, producers, investors, financiers, directors, or anyone interested in entering the filmmaking business in the area of production. Participants must be from Qatar or the MENA region and must have a feature-length project in development. The director or screenwriter can partake in aspects of the programme, and candidates must have produced at least one short or feature-length or documentary in the past.

Prospective candidates must submit a short synopsis of the project in development, film treatment, a brief bio of the producer, script, and other requirements listed on DFI’s website.

Lab mentors will include Jovan Marjanovic, Violeta Bava, Dora Bouchoucha, Jad Abi Khalil, Jana Wehbe, Aranka Matits, and Myriam Sassine.
