Doha: Suka’ar overcame a tough challenge from Al Junood to bag the coveted Dibal Cup, winning the feature race of the 46th Race Meeting at Al Rayyan Racecourse, yesterday.

Guided by Szczepan Mazur, the six-year-old generated pace in last stages of the QR 100,000 Local Purebred Arabian Handicap to defy Al Junood - ridden by JP Guillambert – by less than a length.

The Mrs. Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned horse secured winner’s purse of QR57,000 after being fastest in the 1900m run.

Earlier, the Purebred Arabian Handicap race produced thrilling action with Shgarde, guided by Alberto Sanna, claiming the win by a head margin, denying AJS Al Aredh in a gripping clash.

Ridden by Meteb Ali Al Marri, Lo De Nalane also notched up a close victory over Mojandil to grab the Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 4) crown, giving trainer Owaida Salem Al Hajri, a coveted victory.

Also last night, jockey Tomas Lukasek and Mohammed Abdulla Al Attiya-owned South Audley teamed up to land the Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 5) title after the three-year-old bay colt, trained by Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki, won the 1700m run by 2¼ lengths.

Hanouf Dukhan was also in top form yesterday as Antar Rashid Al Marri-owned four-year-old claimed a 2½-length victory in the 1700m Purebred Arabian Handicap. Rashid Ali Al Marri rode Hanouf Dukhan, which is trained by Ali Al Marri.

Meanwhile, the 1900m Novice Plate title went to Hamed Ali Al Mulla’s Local Law, who clinched five-length win under Lukas Delozier. It was trainer Hamad Al Jehani’s second victory in as many races after Soufiane Saadi guided Baxter to 1700m Local TB Maiden Plate triumph.

Midrass set the pace on the Dibal Cup day by winning the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate over 1200m with half a length. The Ghazwan Racing’s entry was helmed by Shakir Al Balushi in yesterday’s opening race.
