The Speaker of the Shura Council and Chairman of the Coordination Meeting of the Islamic Parliamentary Group, H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud has expressed hope that the meetings of the group will be productive and successful for the benefit of Islamic countries and peoples.

During the session of the Coordination Meeting of the of the Islamic Parliamentary Group, H E Al Mahmoud called on the representatives of the Islamic countries ‑ who presented proposals on protecting the Palestinian people, peaceful coexistence, protection of the rights of Muslim minorities and combating racism and Islamophobia ‑ to unify their proposals.

Mohammad Qureshi Niyas, Secretary-General of Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, pointed out that the Conference of Parliaments of Islamic States held recently in the Kingdom of Morocco condemned the repeated Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and called on the United Nations to provide protection to the Palestinian people.

“The Islamic countries have noticed that after their conference in Morocco, the suffering of the Palestinians has increased from Israeli aggression,” he said, adding that the declaration of recognition of the Golan Heights as a part of Israel was contrary to international norms and laws.

Niyas also said that it was the duty of the countries that participate in the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to defend the Golan Heights as Arab lands and called for the defence of Muslim minorities everywhere, especially after the attack on Muslims in the mosques in New Zealand. 

He called on the heads of Islamic parliaments and parliamentarians to support the proposals made by Kuwait and the Kingdom of Morocco calling to protect the rights of the Muslim minorities and preserve their dignity in the places they are living.

The Secretary-General of Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States drew attention to a proposal by the Netherlands which calls to provide humanitarian assistance to the States of Malawi and Zimbabwe. 

He also pointed out to another proposal submitted by Iran that calls for ensuring international protection of the Palestinian people as he drew attention to the proposal from Turkey aimed at fighting racism and hatred against Islam.

The heads of state and parliamentarians from Kuwait, Turkey, Qatar, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Uganda, and Tunisia presented their proposals. 

The representative of Kuwait highlighted the importance of the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Qatar, indicating that these meetings were being held in an Arab country for the first time.

The representative of the Qatari Shura Council stressed the importance of the meetings and said that the parliaments of Islamic countries agreed on the proposals for the Palestinian people and Muslim minorities. 

The representative of the Sudanese parliament said that the countries which submitted the proposals have strong relations and that the proposal for the support of Malawi and Zimbabwe is a humanitarian proposal which must be taken into account.

The representative of the Iraqi parliament stressed the clause related to peaceful coexistence and protection of the rights of minorities and stressed the need to protect the Palestinians and the recognition of Arab sovereignty over the Golan.
