Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi; Founder and Chairman of the Board at Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, with other officials during the honouring ceremony of ‘Destination Imagination’ programme winners.
Doha: Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF) honoured the students who won first places in the ‘Destination Imagination’ programme for the academic year 2021/2022, which the Foundation is implementing in public and private schools across Qatar in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Addressing the attendees, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi said over the past nine years, the Foundation had been conducting this initiative in collaboration and partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Dr. Al Nuaimi stated that ‘Destination Imagination’ programme includes many different challenges, such as the scientific, engineering, and technical challenge, which positively affects students and gives them experience dealing with challenges outside of the approved curricula, qualifying them to compete with students from other countries around the world in the global championship.
He thanked and appreciated Sheikh Faisal, who is always dedicated to promoting students and education through key programmes and initiatives.
Also speaking during the event, Founder and Chairman of the Board at Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani said, “The main idea behind establishing Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation is to make a contribution that qualifies and changes the life of an individual in the family, educationally, and in the community through a distinguished set of programmes, activities, and educational grants through which we seek to support ministries and civil society institutions in the country, particularly in the field of education.”
“We believe that learning should motivate future generations of young people to achieve their goals, and that education is the foundation of inclusive sustainable development and economic progress, as well as the ability to boost productivity at work in order to establish integrated societies,” he added.
Sheikh Faisal further said that the Foundation’s programmes and activities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, aim to achieve and implement Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
He congratulated the winners of the global educational programme ‘Destination Imagination’ for the season 2021-2022. ‘Destination Imagination’ initiative is a one-of-a-kind platform for highlighting historic Qatari culture and showcasing the creative abilities of Qatari students to over 10,000 students worldwide. Over the course of eight years, more than 15,000 students from public and private schools in Qatar participated in the programme’s different challenges.
Maha Al Ruwaili, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, expressed her happiness at attending the ceremony honouring the winning students and thanked Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation and its employees for their efforts, as well as the school principals and participants, particularly the students with special needs who left an indelible mark on the programme.
Eng. Abdul Latif Ali Al Yafei, General Manager of Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation, stated that the foundation is always eager to support students and education by implementing programmes and activities that aim to develop students and provide them with the necessary skills to face a variety of challenges.
He said that the Foundation is implementing the ‘Destination Imagination’ programme this year with the participation of more than 165 teams from 60 public and private schools, and approximately 1,200 male and female students are competing in the programme’s various challenges to qualify for the world championship in Kansas, USA.
The ceremony was also attended by Mona El Helbawi, General Manager of the Education, Culture and Sports Sector at Al Faisal Holding, ARIES Cluster, Fatima Al Obaidli, Head of Activities and Programs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and a group of attendees included university representatives, school principals, and media representatives.
