Doha: Concerned parents of children studying CBSE (i) curriculum in Indian schools in Qatar have joined an online petition on change.org urging the Indian education board to reconsider their decision to stop the curriculum from next academic year.

“We, the parents of students studying in CBSE-i, are angry and disappointed by the abrupt decision of CBSE to direct schools not to offer CBSE-i curriculum from 2017-18 session,” begins the petition.

"We were very happy with CBSE (i) and if it is discontinued we will have to look at other options as our daughter was benefiting immensely from the same," Sushma Harish, mother of student in a Qatar school told The Peninsula.

The circular from CBSE had mentioned “several issues relating to operational difficulties, including availability of quality reading material of global standard,” as reason for stopping the curriculum.

A parent who signed the petition said that instead of stopping they should step up the effort to make it a success.

“I am against this motion, when something doesn't work, you don't quit you step up your effort,” a parent from Qatar Anoja Shabeer wrote.

More than 1,400 people have signed the petition on change.org as of now and many parents from Qatar have signed the same.

The petition mentioned said:

“We, the undersigned, support the continued offering and further development of CBSE-i curriculum. We demand that:

1) The decision to discontinue CBSE International must be rolled back immediately.

2) Schools currently offering CBSE International and those wanting to offer in future must be allowed to do so without undue restrictions.

3) CBSE must constitute a task force to improve the curriculum and address any issues.”

The petition will be delivered to the Chairman  of CBSE, Indian HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

One of the parents from Qatar, Prakash Nair, who signed the petition, commented on the link: “I Strongly believe that the CBSE (i) should continue. My Child is enjoying this curriculum and also improved her problem solving skills.”

Many parents from gulf countries like Qatar, Oman and UAE have signed the petition. Some parents from Zambia and lots from India have also signed.
