Doha: In preparation for the rainy season, priority will be given to schools, government institutions, and main roads in regard to rainwater draining, Assistant Director of Mechanical Equipment Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), Marzouq Al Mesaifir, has said.
All areas are under control according to prior studies of the sites and the amount of rain during this season. “With regard to the priority in dealing with calls that reach the Ministry of Municipality and Environment regarding rainwater, schools, government entities, and main roads will be given preference,” said Al Mesaifir.
Speaking to Qatar Radio recently, he said that the MME through the newly opened Unified Operations Center is ready to receive calls related to removal of rainwater on the number 184. The center receives calls about inquiries and complaints related to over a hundred services offered by the MME to its customers. He also said that the Joint Rainfall Emergency Committee met in June and July to set plans related to rain, including proactive measures to avoid a repeat of shortcomings registered in the previous seasons.
Among the committee’s preparations is the maintenance of all rainwater pumps and tanks to ensure efficiency. Also, barriers are placed in areas where rainwater gathers, which may pose a danger to motorists.
All precautionary measures have been taken to deal with the rainy season, and most of the places of rainwater accumulation are specific and have been marked as ‘black points.’ The MME vehicles will remove the trapped water from open streets. There are also teams distributed to the black points daily.
According to Al Mesaifir, the committee will coordinate with construction companies to be responsible for their worksites.
The Public Works Authority has announced the completion of the stormwater drainage network, which serves four areas in Doha West: Fereej Al Manaseer, South Muaither, Bu Sidra, and Al Sailiya until Al Furousiya Street.
The newly completed network comes as part of Ashghal’s strategy to preserve the environment and public health and safety.
