Qatar residents will get to witness beautiful light shows and indulge in scrumptious burgers here this weekend. We have made a list of all the exciting outdoor and indoor activities happening in Qatar. If you know of any other events happening around Qatar please share in the comments section.

Doha Burger Festival

The classic American burger is given a Qatari twist at an expanded version of the annual Doha Burger Festival at Katara Cultural Village.

The festival also includes six food trucks with local concepts and a vegetarian section for the health conscious. There are also several stalls offering non-food products, one of the biggest bouncy castle, a kid’s area, a stage where shows will be held daily, and an electronic games section with competitions with a total of more than QR30,000 in prizes at stake.

Light me Lusail

The biggest and the first International Light Festival in Qatar will be held at Lusail Marina.

Light Me Lusail, a three-day festival, will feature vibrant light installations in the Eastern Promenade.

Installation of internationally acclaimed artist and co-founder of Ocubo, which specialises in light video mapping projection, Nuno Maya will be present at the festival.

Another popular installation that will be featured is NEST, an artwork by Indian light designers and architects Vikas Patil and Santosh Gujar. Based on bowerbirds of Australia, the organic architecture is built from recycled materials and includes multiple light sequence.

Katara Cultural Diversity Festival

This weekend the event will feature folkloric shows from Mexico.

The festival features an array of cultural performances from different nations around the world and aims to act as bridge between cultures and provide a multicultural harmonious environment.

The festival is free for everyone.

Russian avant-garde art show

A rich and diverse collection of works by pioneers and descendants of Russian avant-garde art is on show at the Fire Station marking the conclusion of the highly successful Qatar Russia 2018 Year of Culture.

Organized in collaboration with world-renowned State Tretyakov Gallery, the exhibition, features 81 works by 24 of the most influential and significant figures in the history of Russian art.

Divided into eight sections, the exhibition offers art connoisseurs and enthusiasts inspiring journey into two waves of Russian art – one representing works by pioneering artists of 1910s to 1920s and the other by ‘underground’ artists of mid-20th century or the direct descendants.

One of the remarkable pieces on display is a 1919 installation by Vladimir Tatlin in the form of a model of a tower resembling a huge functioning machine with structures designed to rotate at a specific time.

105+dB installation at Souq Waqif

To every football fan, watching a football match live in a stadium is the most exhilarating experience. Virtually the same experience is brought to Souq Waqif through the 105+dB sonic installation which premiered yesterday.

A first-of-its-kind aural art piece in Qatar, 105+dB, which refers to the sound level at which individual voices are lost in a crowd, is a public art installation created by Invisible Flock, a Leeds-based interactive arts studio, as a highlight of the fifth annual Qatar British Festival.

For this large-scale installation, 12 speakers are positioned around Al Ahmed Square in which a 25-minute recording of football fans chanting and cheering during a football match last September 14 at Grand Hamad Stadium is played providing passers-by a unique way of enjoying public art beyond the usual visual dimension.

Urban Dance

The residents of Qatar will be able to experience Urban Dance, a performance that includes extreme kinds of sports, trial, modern and street dances (hip hop, jazz), acrobatics and circus art.

'Beauty and the Beast' musical comedy show at QNCC

The tale of Beauty and the Beast written in 1740 by Gabrielle Suzanne de Villeneuve has been narrated in many different ways and now the Qatar audience can witness the tale in a Pantomime version.

Organised by the Doha Players, the tickets priced at QR 100 are selling out fast.

Doha International Book Fair

About 30 countries are participating in the 29th edition of the Doha International Book Fair, which reflects the large participation of Arab and foreign countries.

The fair includes around 101,992 titles in Arabic and 17, 261 titles in other foreign languages, bringing the total Arab and foreign languages titles to 119, 253. Also, there will be an excellent participation from Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and embassies of US, France, Korea and Palestine.

Spain will participate for the first time in the exhibition this year. The number of publishers in this year’s fair from Lebanon, Jordan, and Morocco has increased.

MINBER is a collection of artworks created by 15 junior and senior year students from the painting and printmaking program at VCUarts Qatar.

KidiZens Got Talent 2018

KidzMondo Doha will launch the first edition of KidiZens Got Talent 2018, Doha’s biggest children’s Talent Competition.

Local kids will be given a platform to showcase their skills, talents and passions, whether in instrument playing, singing, dancing, performing a comedy act, reciting a poem or a play, or anything else.

Auditions for the talent show will be open until December 15, and the finals will be held on December 21.

The child who is elected for first place will be awarded a cheque of QR 10,000.
