The General Authority of Customs has completed 1,795,000 customs declarations in the first half of the year, according to statistics by the GAC’s Planning and Quality Department.
Through the Al Nadeeb system, the GAC has streamlined its operations, significantly improving efficiency, transaction speed, and documentation. The system links the GAC and all partners from government agencies and private entities.
The Air Cargo Department recorded 1,648,324 declarations in the first quarter, while the Maritime Department completed 144,958 declarations.
The Authority made 703 seizures of narcotic substances in the same period, including pills, marijuana, hashish, and prohibited tobacco.
Recently, the Authority linked the procedures between the image analysis systems (NeoTech) of the x-ray machines Al Nadeeb. The first-of-its-kind initiative speeds up the inspection process, reduces the release time, and lightens the burden on inspectors.
Meanwhile, in its monthly newsletter, the GAC has announced that the customs declarations for August totaled 261,811.
The Air Cargo unit recorded 233,772 declarations, while the Maritime Customs department recorded 26,675 declarations in August.
The Customs Authority also announced seizing 192kg of Opium in August, the largest seizure in the month. It recorded 257 seizure reports as officials continue to thwart smugglers and drug pushers at all points of entry.
India remained the top exporting country in the month, and China remained the highest importing country. The GAC released 97 percent of its declarations in one hour.
The Natural Reserves and Wildlife Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) beat the Health Promotion Department as the Best Government Agency in time of release at an average of 1.69 hours.
Other government agencies received 24,788 customs declarations.
