DOHA: The National Traffic Safety Committee at the Ministry of Interior and Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center at Qatar University are preparing to organise the International Traffic Safety Conference 2018 (ITSC 2018).
The event will be organized under the patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani next month.
The conference aims to get academics, experts and practitioners to exchange knowledge, experiences, and strategies for reducing road accidents, as well as discussing the social and economic impacts of crashes.
The conference will be organized under the theme “A safe road transport system that protects all road users from fatal and serious injuries”. The two-day event will be held on November 26 and 27, 2018 at Sheraton Grand Doha Hotel.
The conference will deal with a number of topics such s traffic safety engineering, naturalistic driving behaviour, youth and traffic safety and crash data. Due to efforts taken by concerned authorities, the roads in Qatar have become much safer over the past decade.
The Ministry of Interior said on more than one occasion that it is working hard and doing all efforts to reduce the number of traffic accidents and address the consequences of human suffering resulting from them.
The road accident mortality rate has fallen from 14 deaths per 100,000 people in 2013 to 5.4 deaths per 100,000 people in 2017, a figure lower than the national traffic safety strategy of 6 deaths per 100,000 population until 2022.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani was launched in the beginning of this year the second action plan of the National Traffic Safety Strategy (2018-2022).
It included input of stakeholders and the community, as well as scientific research through the development of the global security system adopted by the United Nations to meet the requirements of fast-growing countries such as Qatar.
