Doha: Petra Kvitova clinched second Qatar Total Open crown after outclassing Garbiñe Muguruza 6-2, 6-1 in the final at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on Saturday.
The Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also watched the final that saw the World No. 10 Czech hitting powerful shots all over the court to tame the World No.16 Spaniard, whom she also defeated in the 2018 final. She completed the win in only 66 minutes.
With her title triumph, Kvitova, who will turn 31 on Monday, became only the fourth player in the tournament’s history to clinch the tournament twice. Victoria Azarenka (2012 and 2013), Anastasia Myskina (2003, 2004) and Maria Sharapova (2005, 2008) previously won the prestigious title twice.
The southpaw now also have most number of wins in Doha after her 20th victory surpassing Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, who have won 19 matches each in Doha.
Kvitova, also a finalist in last year’s edition, got richer by $68,570 after winning the title while Muguruza collected a purse of $51,000 for being the runner-up.
