Radars catch more traffic violations

With the installation of more traffic radars across the country, the number of violations caught by radars has increased to 122,967 in November last year from 79,852 in November 2015, registering a 54 percent increase.
The number of traffic violations caught by radars in October last year was 100,872. There is a 21 percent increase in the number of radar-registered violations when November 2016 is compared with October the same year. Radar catches speeding by drivers as well as overtaking from right, non-wearing of seat belts and using phone during driving.
These figures were revealed in the Qatar Monthly Statistics Bulletin, Issue 35 (December 2016) of the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
Overall, 182,731 traffic violations were registered in November last year which is a 36.3 percent increase compared with November 2015 in which 134,107 traffic violations were caught. The total registered traffic violations in October 2016 were 161,353, with a 13.2percent increase in traffic violations when two consecutive months (November and October 2016) are compared.
At the same time, traffic violations relating to passing red signals decreased from 2,070 registered cases in November 2015 to 1,790 cases in November 2016, a decrease of 13.5 percent.
Traffic signs violations increased from 8,563 in November 2015 to 15,299 in November last year, registering a 78.7 percent rise. In October last year, the number of incidents violating traffic signs was 14,323.
The data further reveals that traffic violations related to non-renewal of registration and driving licences are dropping. The number of non-renewal of registration dropped from 403 in November 2015 to 244 in November 2016 while the number of non-renewal of driving licences fell from 134 in November 2015 to 88 in November last year.
The ministry’s report further reveals a 28 percent increase in traffic accidents from 471 in October 2016 to 606 in November last year. The majority of accidents (97) occurred in Al Rayyan, following (90) in South and (89) in Al Mamoura.
In November last year, 19 people lost their lives in traffic accidents compared to 15 in October in the same year. Most of the people (6) died in Al-Shamal municipality in November last year while 4 people died in traffic accidents in Madinat Khalifa the same month.
