Doha, Qatar: Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri has affirmed that the referendum on the proposed constitutional amendments is a public participation, allowing the people to participate in voting on decisions that are significant for the state, whether legal, political, or constitutional.
He explained that the referendum today represents a historic moment, through which the meanings of societal cohesion and unity are embodied. It is an effective approach to strengthening active participation among community members and encouraging them to share their views for the advancement of the country.
He further highlighted that the referendum enhances popular participation in making important decisions and is a step towards empowering citizens to freely express their opinions. He also pointed out that the constitutional amendments are a reinforcement of the principles of justice and the rule of law, as well as an enhancement of national unity and the promotion of equal citizenship rights and duties.
The Minister commended the arrangements made by the General Committee for the Referendum, noting that the process of voting on the constitutional amendments had been made more accessible through paper referendum committees, electronic referendum committees, and the “Metrash 2” application, which paved the way for broad public participation in this referendum.
