Constitutional amendments meet aspirations of Qatari people: NHRC Chairperson

Doha, Qatar: Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) H E Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah has said the constitutional amendments confirmed the keenness of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his insightful vision in preserving national constants, enshrining the values of equal citizenship among the Qatari people.
She said that this also aimed at strengthening the cohesion and national unity of Qatari society, consolidating and achieving equality in rights and duties among citizens, and protecting public freedoms under the principle of the rule of law.
Al Attiyah explained that these amendments met the aspirations of the Qatari people and are in line with the changes and developments witnessed by Qatar in all aspects of life and enhance the building of the modern state, a state of law and institutions.
She expressed her appreciation for the Shura Council’s approval of these amendments in accordance with its constitutional powers, which confirms the convergence of the Council’s will with the popular will in order to achieve the supreme interest of the state.
