Dr Khalid bin Mubarak Al-Shafi, Editor-in-Chief of The Peninsula, during the Qatar TV talk show “The Truth”, yesterday.
Dr. Khalid bin Mubarak Al- Shafi, Editor-in-Chief of The Peninsula has said that the cooperation agreement signed between Qatar Charity (QC) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to support UNHCR protection and assistance activities for refugees and displaced persons globally is a proof that Qatar’s charity organisations are not supporting terrorism.
“It is a reaction to the siege countries which are accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism. Qatar was and still supporting the poor people around the world and it is the third country in the world who support poor people and the first among Arab countries,” said Dr. Al Shafi last night while talking on Qatar TV talk show “The Truth”.
He said that the media of the siege countries didn’t report the agreement because they were not looking for truth and “they are fabricating news and creating lies against Qatar”.
Dr. Al Shafi noted that the United Nations has put the siege counties among the countries which support terrorism especially about their intervention in Yemen where they were responsible for killing big number of innocent people.
He also added that Qatar didn’t intervene in Yemen. “It just defended and protected Saudi borders from Houthis and troops loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The other countries entered Yemen and their goal was not to restore legitimacy in Yemen. Some of these countries like the UAE are supporting troops against others and want to divide Yemen.”
“These countries, when they imposed siege against Qatar, made revenge against Qatari citizens and condiscated their properties which Islam, ethics and all laws guarantee. Even they dispelled animals.”
Qatar didn’t retaliate and even during the 2014 crisis, it didn’t withdraw its ambassadors from these countries. “Qatar in current crisis has not taken any action against citizens of these countries.
About 12,000 citizens from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain are in Qatar. The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani gave directions that these residents must be dealt like Qataris and this their second home,” Dr. Al-Shafi added.
Mohamed Hamad Al Marri, Editor-in-Chief of Al Watan newspaper questioned that how could Qatar Charity support terrorism and sign agreements with UN simultaneously? “These countries are exploiting humanitarian work to accuse Qatar of supporting terrorism. Qatar does not need such testimony because it used to and still providing support to people in all the countries around the world. Qatar provides education to around 7 million children around the world”, Al Marri added.
On the intervention in Yemen, he said that countries like the UAE have a special agenda in Yemen and its “aim is not to restore normalcy in the country” and it was supporting troops against another.
“According to international organisations, hundreds of children have died in Yemen and the number of injured is very high”, Al Marri added.
