Doha, Qatar: The family medicine model at Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) continues to be a successful approach to delivering primary care in the country.
The family medicine model of care was introduced at PHCC in 2018; the model of care is dubbed as personal, comprehensive, and integrated care and focuses on disease prevention and the well-being of the population.
Family medicine services are provided across 31 health centres in the country and have seen an increase in the number of patients. According to data released by PHCC the number of individuals seeing family medicine services has increased by 9% in 2022 compared with 2021.
A total of 2475235 individuals sought family medicine services in 2021 and it has increased to 2705400 in 2022.
“PHCC family doctors are dedicated to providing you and your family with the best possible care to meet all your health and wellbeing needs,” PHCC has said on its website.
Family physicians at PHCC deliver a range of acute, chronic, and preventive medical care services. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, they also provide preventive care, including routine checkups, health-risk assessments, immunisation and screening tests, and personalised counselling on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“With a family physician on your side, you have a partner to guide you and help you manage your health. Family medicine practitioners develop personal relationships with their patients and build a history with them,” says PHCC.
“Not only are they a great resource for preventive care, but your relationship with them and their insight into your health history are crucial when irregular symptoms - physical or emotional - point to potential diseases and conditions. And when a specialist’s care is needed, your family medicine practitioner will serve as an advocate for you and coordinate your care with the needed specialist, helping you navigate new information and recommendations,” it added.
The PHCC’s family medicine team help individuals access all the services they need in one visit; guide and help them manage their health; and ultimately, identify any potential future health concerns to ensure the individual and their family maintain optimal health.
PHCC is also encouraging the public to use its Nar’aakom’, a bilingual mobile application, or call ‘Hayak 107’ for appointment bookings at the health centres for family medicine services and other services.
