Beijing: Ambassador of Qatar to China H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Dehaimi hosted a ceremony for honouring Ge Tieying, Wang Fu and Li Zhenzhong for winning the 2021 Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding (SHATIU) in the translation from Arabic to Chinese category.
Several heads and representatives of Arab diplomatic missions accredited to China attended the honoring ceremony. The award winners commended the

role of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and all those in charge of the award, expressing their pride in winning the award, which they considered a major reason for bringing civilizations closer together, building bridges of communication between nations and peoples, and enhancing cultural cooperation between Arab countries and China.

They also considered the honour a very important gesture in their path and an incentive to do more in the translation field, stressing that their work was stemmed from their aspiration and love for the Arabic language and civilization and their passion for translation. 

In a speech on this occasion, Ambassador of Qatar to China H E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Dehaimi said that the current civilized dialogue between the friendly Arab and Chinese nations in which the honorable professors, who are honoured, played a vital role in introducing Arab civilization, culture and literature to the Chinese people by presenting many significant works, which spanned over 30 years, including Al Bukhala by Al Jahiz, Tawq Al Hamam by Raja Alim and Muqaddimah by Ibn Khaldun. 

The Ambassador called on young Chinese translators to continue their venerable mission and crucial role as pillars of civilized dialogue between Arabs and China.

Ge Tieying won first place in the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding for translating ‘Al Bukhala by Al Jahiz’ book from Arabic into Chinese. Wang Fu won second place in the same category for translating ‘Tawq Al Hamam’ by Raja Alim book. Li Zhenzhong won the achievement award for Bayt Al Hikmah Group.
