Health sector lauds Amir’s speech at Shura Council

Doha: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in his speech during the 49th ordinary session of the Shura Council, has affirmed the country’s commitment and ability to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, said senior officials in the health sector. 

The speech highlighted that the country’s health system has proven its reliability in dealing with the pandemic, making Qatar one of the world’s least affected countries. The address also emphasised health policies’ results and the continuous investment in developing the health system and medical staff, including prevention, daycare centres, and hospitals.

Chief Medical Officer at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari said that as the world is combating COVID-19 and maintaining the economy’s strength, H H the Amir’s speech has highlighted Qatar’s ability.

“The speech is a strong message to people in Qatar and the world. It highlighted Qatar’s commitment to fighting the pandemic globally. The speech outlined the strength, commitment, and readiness of our health system to face any situation,” Dr. Al Ansari told The Peninsula

“We are proud of our Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and all other stakeholders for following meticulous strategic steps and increasing the level of public awareness about the pandemic,” he added. 

The Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital (HGH), Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, said that H H the Amir’s speech is a strong message on Qatar and its health system is resilient to any challenge. 

“The speech highlighted how Qatar’s health system is ready to handle any situation, with the right policies and regulations. Also, Qatar’s ability to strengthen the country’s economy while battling COVID-19 challenges,” he said.

“It is a message on how Qatar has handled the situation with partial lockdowns, implementing precautionary measures, and having a very efficient pathway to isolate and treat those infected with the COVID-19 virus.   

“The speech has also affirmed Qatar’s support to international efforts to accelerate the development of a necessary vaccine and make it affordable in a fair way to neediest countries,” he said. 

Meanwhile, Chair of the Healthcare Communications Committee and Chief Communications Officer at HMC, Ali Al Khater, said, “In this global pandemic, H H the Amir’s speech has highlighted measures taken by the government and emphasized the strength of the health care system. The speech proves Qatar’s competence and the strength of its health system through the right leadership tackling the virus and mitigating it.”
