In order to contribute to enriching knowledge and enhancing communication between government sectors and companies working in the field of transport, shipping and logistics, the Silk Road Exhibition and Conference opened yesterday. As part of the new Silk Road initiative, Qatar and the region came up with the idea of organizing the Silk Road Exhibition and Conference to gather all authorities concerned under one roof to exchange experiences and to showcase the latest development in the transportation field.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is committed to provide safe, effective and environment-friendly transport system and develop the ICT sector in a way that supports the Qatar economic growth, quality of life and long-term sustainability to meet the national development requirements.

The event is being held at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center and attended by Minister of Public Works of Kuwait H E Dr Jenan Bushehri;  Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, QIIB Chairman and Managing Director;  Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive, Qatar Airways, and many other officials from government and private sector.

Qatari economy today is one of the most promising regional economies as the State of Qatar maintained positive and balanced growth rates despite the unfair blockade. 

In the past years, Qatar has succeeded in consolidating its position on the world economy map in accordance with the approach set by Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

In a statement on the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Minister of Transport and Communications, H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, said that Qatar is one of the main participants in the Silk Road Initiative, where about 13800 shipments are shipped annually through Silk Road and working to increase this contribution.

Qatar is among the very first countries to have supported the Belt & Road Initiative that aims for wider links between Asia, Africa and Europe. Qatar signed several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that support the initiative. 

The Exhibition provides an opportunity for direct meetings between exhibitors and many decision-makers from public and private sectors participating in the event.

The three-day Exhibition which will conclude tomorrow attracted investments and specialized modern technology to the state of Qatar and a number of agreements and mutual cooperation are expected to be signed on the sideline of the exhibition.

The event is being organized by Dar Al Sharq Group, represented by Al Sharq Media Management.

Eizeldin Abdelrahman, Executive Director of Al Sharq Media Management and Executive Director of the Silk Road Exhibition, said that the exhibition is being held on its First Edition with the aim of attracting investments and exchanging expertise in the fields of Transport, Shipping, Logistics and Customs Services.

Companies participating in the exhibition are representing both Public and Private sectors from Qatar with several participating countries are Italy - Pakistan - Iran - Syria - Kyrgyzstan - Azerbaijan and Poland.
