Doha: Artists and aspiring artists are invited to take part at Doha Film Institute’s Graphic Novels Workshop: The Art of Showing and Telling from June 18 to 30.
The Institute posted on its social media accounts said the “course mixes theory and practice, with time dedicated to lectures and practical sessions. Attendees will get the chance to develop their own projects with the help and guidance of the mentors leading the class.”
The workshop will help participants on creating his own graphic novel, from the fundamentals of storytelling. They will also learn how to compose a scene and create that scene in comic format.
Mentors for the workshop are Roda Al Thani and Dawood Al Anwari. Al Thani is a Qatari Visual Artist based in Doha. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQ) with a BFA in Graphic Design. Her work ranges from game design to publications and posters. In 2018, she earned her MFA in Visual Narrative from the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has been featured in several exhibitions, including Ajyal Film Festival and is currently a producer at Qatar Museums.
Dawood Al Anwari graduated from VCUQ in 2013 with a BFA in Graphic Design. He has worked on multiple film sets as an Art Director and developed a passion for teaching. Dawood has taught multiple courses across his field of knowledge, from stop-motion classes to 101 Intros to Game Design and Poster Design to university students.
Interested applicants aged 18 above who are interested to participate are requested to email [email protected], and submit a short personal bio. Portfolio submissions are optional, and the deadline of submission is on June 12. The workshop will be conducted at Doha Film Institute, Building 25 at Katara Cultural Village.
