Doha: The Ministry of Culture and a number of Qatari publishing houses are participating in the Sharjah International Book Fair 2022 which opened in Sharjah, UAE, yesterday. It will conclude on November 13.
The Ministry of Culture said that its participation in the exhibition stems from its keenness to participate in international book fairs, which is an opportunity to present Qatari intellectual production to a wide audience of readers around the world, to learn about the continuous development in the publishing industry and to build relationships with workers in the field of culture and publishing industry, praising the participation of a number of Qatari publishing houses in the exhibition, including: Al-Watad House, Hamad Bin Khalifa University Publisning House, and Qatar University Press.
The Ministry, represented by the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum, is also participating in the sixth edition of Arab Publishers Conference, which will be held on the sidelines of the Fair and will last for two days, under the theme “The Arab Content Industry and Post-Pandemic Challenges.”
The conference, in which experts in the publishing industry will participate, will discuss the prospects for developing the Arab publishing sector, and put forward visions and ideas that ensure practical and innovative solutions to the various challenges facing the publishing industry in the Arab world, and foresee plans to ensure that it reaches a better future that keeps pace with the rapid global developments, especially in the modern technical fields.
Italy is the guest of honour at this year's Sharjah International Book Fair, which is being held under the slogan “Word for the World”.
The book fair displays 1.5 million books in various languages, on diverse sciences and arts. It also includes many cultural and artistic activities and events, in addition to presenting many prizes in the fields of publishing and creativity.
The Sharjah International Book Fair has been held annually in Sharjah since 1982, under the supervision of the Sharjah Book Authority, and is a platform for displaying new publications for a large number of publishers from different countries.
