Doha: The waterfront of the cultural district “Katara” witnessed the activities of Omani folk arts, which are revived by the Izki Folklore Troupe. The event will continue until today, from 5pm until 10pm.

The troupe performed many Omani folk arts, including the art of Al Azi, Al Razha and Al Qirba, as part of its presentation of the folk lyrical heritage and introducing Katara visitors to the most prominent Omani folk arts inherited by generations and the ways to perform them, thus embodying these colours of traditional arts that are unique to the Sultanate of Oman.

Al Razha is defined as an individual art performed without percussion and carried out by a creative poet who glorified the principles of poetic recitation in the poems of Al Azi, while the art of bagpipes is known for its lightness and the beauty of its rhythm and dances.

Al Azi is based on the power of the voice of the performer, and the performer stages by forming a closed circle of all the participants. The Al Azi poet leads his group while holding his sword in his right hand and his gear in his left hand. He walks and recites a poem of pride or praise, and after him the men repeat what the performer said. The Izki Folklore Troupe plays a major and active role in highlighting the Omani cultural and intellectual heritage, through its many artistic and cultural events and events that embody the nobility and beauty of Omani folk and heritage arts.
