Doha: The Ministry of Culture’s Music Affairs Centre organised on Wednesday a seminar dubbed Soundtracks in Drama which highlights the role of music in films and series.

The event was presented by composer and music distributor, Mohammed Al Banna.

He explained that real concept of the soundtrack refers to the motion picture and to the audios that are broadcast on air.

Al Banna emphasised that music has had a significant impact on filmmaking since the days of silent movies to the silver screen.

Al Banna pointed out that the soundtrack is comparable to the protagonist in a drama whether in film or series. A picture is completed with sound effects, thus incorporating it in the scene where it becomes its own imprint.

Moreover, a discussion on lyrical introduction, radio and television breaks were likewise covered.

Al Banna’s most well-known works, including the Raafat Al Hagan, the Message, the Night of the Capture of Fatima, Uncle Ahmed Case series, were presented during a musical performance. Also, the documentary series Footsteps of the Traveller, the Hafez Ali film, The Return of the Oryx, and a movie about Garangao.

Among the performers include Hassan Moataz on cello; Amir Ayad, oud; Yasin Ayari, flute; and Fawri, piano.

Meanwhile, the first Awtar Competition was launched last week by Music Affairs Centre and Qatar University’s Student Activities Department, in an effort to increase students’ cultural awareness, develop their musical sensitivity, and recognise and develop their creative talents.

The deadline for the competition is on October 3.

In particular, it aims to create national identity through technical levels and knowledge of invention in the artistic and musical realms.

It also aims to recognise and develop the skills of students while also motivating them to participate actively.

Mohammed Al Banna is also among the jury in the competition, together with Nasser Sahim, Deputy Executive Director of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra; and Mohammed Al Marri, music composer.

The Music Affairs Center of the Ministry of Culture was established in Qatar in 2016 and aims to raise awareness of musical culture and to introduce the importance of arts and their role in society.
