Education Ministry launches 14th edition of Scientific Excellence Award

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has launched 14th edition of the Scientific Excellence Award for which the entries will be submitted only online because of the exceptional situation due to COVID-19. 

The award was launched at a press conference organised by the Organising Committee of the Scientific Excellence Award yesterday to introduce the 14th edition of the award, main objectives and participation categories. 

“The award aims at deepening the concepts of excellence and creativity by adopting international standards, implementing specific programmes and integrating individual and institutional efforts to improve the educational process outcomes in Qatar,” said Dr. Hamda Hasan Al Sulaiti, CEO of Scientific Excellence Award.

Dr. Hamda  who is also the Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science was speaking at the press conference through videoconferencing.

The press conference was attended by Chairman of  Scientific Excellence Award Ali Al Buainayn who is also Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Joint Services at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and other officials from the Ministry.

Dr. Hamda said that award includes nine categories  — excellent student (primary, preparatory and secondary school separately), excellent university graduate, master degree holder, PhD degree holder, excellent teacher, excellent school and excellent scientific research. 

Speaking about the upgradation of the award, she said: “The electronic system for the Scientific Excellence Award in all its categories has been implemented for this year, and the link will be announced soon, due to the pandemic of COVID-19, Organizing Committee will receive entries electronically.”

She said that the conference of award’s ambassadors will be announced later, and the upcoming period will include a number of introductory meetings for school principals and coordinators in schools, ministries and institutions.

“Training workshops will be held for award categories. The arbitration process of the entries will begin in November. The results will be announced in January 2021, and the annual documentary exhibition for the award will be held in February,” said Dr. Hamda.
She said that schools will receive applications from students and teachers who are interested in participating in the award. However, she said that remaining candidates will submit the entries individually directly to the Organising Committee.

“The entries will be submitted through online link. The honouring ceremony of Scientific Excellence Award will be held on March 1, 2021,” said  Dr. Hamda.

She said that winners of the Scientific Excellence Award will get cash prize. In the primary school category, the winner of gold medal will get QR10,000 and winner of platinum medal will get QR15,000

“In the category of preparatory school, the winner of gold medal will get QR15,000 and winner of platinum medal will receive QR20,000. In the category of secondary school the cash prize is QR35,000. The winner of university student category will get QR45,000. However, the winners of excellent teacher and excellent school categories will get QR60,000 and QR100,000 respectively,” said Dr. Hamda.
