Doha: Cultural Village Foundation, Katara begins its four-day Eid celebrations yesterday where it witnessed a huge crowd number of visitors. Among the programmes include the Valley of Cultures, Eid gifts for children and fireworks display.

Katara General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said the village is keen to attract attendees and enjoy the Eid occasion through a variety of activities. “We are working to present a distinctive cultural and festive tourism scene in line with the vision of the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara to be a meeting place for cultures and people.”

At Katara’s waterfront, special performances from Arab folk groups were conducted coming from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Morocco and Egypt. This started from 5pm until 10pm and will continue every day until Thursday.

People watch the performances from different nations including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Morocco and Egypt at Katara waterfront.

The show started with the performance from Egyptian Golden Eagle Ensemble followed by the Qatari Women’s Popular Renaissance Ensemble, the Syrian Afrah Al Sham band, the Moroccan band Welad Al Mizan and concluded with the Saudi Al Mizmar Band.

The performances drew much attention to visitors from the locals and different nationalities who are spending their first day of Eid at Katara. Carlo Sta. Ana told The Peninsula that watching the performances has opened his interest to know about the dances and culture of the Arab nations. “It’s unique and I was amazed by these presentations which we can mostly see in theatrical plays and cultural events, Katara is doing a good job bringing this kind of activity to the public,” he said.

“A fun-filled first day of Eid at Katara! I’ve never seen this crowd before unlike pre-COVID-19 years. Me and my friends really enjoyed especially the performances and fireworks,“ said Regine Lopez.

Katara also distributed Eid gifts to kids as part of its activities. Moreover, a series of entertainment and educational films will be screened at the Thuraya Planetarium in Building 41. Theatrical performances entitled “Halalalmal Dalalhom” will be conducted from May 10 to 14.
