Doha: Qatar Petroleum (QP) has topped the inaugural list of 2021 LinkedIn Top Companies in Qatar, which ranks the 10 best workplaces to grow one’s career in the country, according to the world’s largest professional networking platform’s methodology.

The list also includes other prominent Qatari companies and organisations including Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), QNB Group, Primary Health Care Corporation, Commercial Bank, Vodafone, Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), Qatargas, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), and Qatalum.

LinkedIn launched the first edition of the list, and highlighted the top Qatari companies which not only attract talent, but also invest in their employees’ growth by helping build their professional foundation that sets them up for success both at the company and beyond. The new methodology featured seven key pillars, each revealing an important element of career progression: ability to advance, skills growth, company stability, external opportunity, company affinity, gender diversity, and educational background.

In the first place, QP was recognised for offering technical and non-technical courses to its workforce through its Professional Learning Department, as well as for running a centre specialised in fire and emergency training. The company, which is also known as the world’s top liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer, was also credited for supporting students through its university scholarship programme.

In the second place, HMC, which manages 12 hospitals, as well as the National Ambulance and home and residential care services, was also featured in the list for offering courses and training programmes to medical graduates through its Medical Education Department, as well as for operating a training centre that offers learning opportunities for other health professionals.

Qatari multinational commercial bank QNB, which has subsidiaries and associates in 31 countries, ranked third in the list. The Bank was also recognised for managing a scholarship programme to fund undergraduates at universities in Qatar or abroad.

Pre-pandemic, Qatar’s job market was already increasingly becoming more competitive than previous years. According to a human resources (HR) expert, job applicants navigating the country’s job market need to enhance their skills for multitasking capabilities in order to stand out in a sea of job campaigns post-pandemic.

“The current job market in Qatar is very promising and bright. It’s time for job seekers to choose wisely among the employers and improve their skills for multitasking capabilities. With the second COVID-19 wave hitting the Asian countries, the shortage of manpower will increase in the current market. Qatari authorities’ measures to control the spread of COVID-19 is commendable, and all residents should play their part to break the chain,” Syed Qadeer, Head of HR & Admin at Vistas Global, one of the largest outsourcing companies in the Middle East, said while talking to The Peninsula yesterday.
