DOHA: With a dashing adrenaline rush and extreme excitement, the third round of the Arab Drag Race Championship came to a close with the final race in the Qatar Racing Club located in the Industrial Area yesterday.
The race witnessed large participation from renowned world champions particularly from the United States of America, which is considered a hub for the drag race sport, along with champions from the gulf region and Al Anabi Drag Racing Team.
Meanwhile, huge masses continued to take part of this championship who enjoyed a great deal of excellent performances among the participants.
The results manifested by the third round of the Arabian Drag Racing League, as part of its five rounds which determine the champions of its 11 categories, ranks it as one of the most internationally acclaimed and recognised Drag Race Championships.
Yesterday’s round had brought up a number of new world records, which undoubtedly made it a treat to millions of drag race riders and enthusiasts from around the world.
With an atmosphere of joy and a huge crowd of excited fans, the coronation ceremony for race cars and motorcycles winners in each of the 11 categories took place, where Fahad Behzad, General Manager of the club, as well as, Abdulrahman Kharji, Director of the Vice President’s office of the club and the media center, and Nick Cheliotis the events co-ordinator, each crowned the winning champions.
In the ‘pro extreme’ category, US driver Frankie Taylor achieved first place after defeating his Anabi rival Alex Hossle in the final race, recording a time of 3.769 seconds.
Hossler had won the second round in first place, achieving a time of just 3.534 seconds and quickly reached to 213.27 miles per hour after defeating his fellow Anabi driver Von Smith.
Smith achieved a time of 3.555 seconds and quickly reached to 212.43 miles per hour. Frank Taylor had also won the first round achieving a new world record.
In the category of ‘Pro Nitrous’, Anabi driver, Khalid Al Balooshi captured the title after defeating fellow Anabi driver Mike Castellana with a time of 3.848 seconds. At one time, Al Balooshi quickly reached 197.33 miles per hour.
In the category of ‘Top Sportsman’, Syrian driver Fady Tamory achieved first place after defeating Emirati Ali Khalil Ansari in the final race.
Elsewhere, in the category of ‘4.50 competition index’, Saudi driver Hisham Mullah won the first place after defeating the UAE driver Ali Yusuf Ali.
Anabi driver Todd Tutterow, won the ‘10.5W outlaw Back Half’ category, while American driver Steve Jackson triumphed in the ‘Superstreet outlaw 8 cylinders,’ category.
In the category of ‘Superstreet outlaw 6 cylinders’, Bahraini driver Yousef Al Zayani won first place after defeating his fellow Bahraini driver Mohammed Mohammed, who finished second.
Fans who attended yesterday’s race, also saw action in the motorcycles category.
Bailey Vose, of the US won the ‘Pro Bike’ category, with Kuwaiti driver, Mohamed Borshid in second place.
Turkish rider Meshary also tasted glory when he defeated Kuwaiti Yaacoub Ali in the ‘Superstreet Bike’ category.
In the category of ‘Street Bike’, Kuwaiti rider Mishary Mesfer won first place while Saudi Ibrahim Al Hofi finished in second place.
In another race that took place yesterday, UAE’s Mogammed Al Mulla won the ‘Dragster’ category edging his compatriot Mohammed Abdullah, who finished in second place.
Qatari Nasser Al Suwaidi finished in third place.
