Doha: The Shura Council held Monday its regular weekly meeting, under the chairmanship of Speaker of the Council HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.
The Council reviewed a draft law regulating the ownership of real estate by diplomatic and consular missions in the country, after discussions on the draft law, the Council decided to refer it to its Internal and External Affairs and Legal and Legislative Affairs Committees for further study and to provide the Council with a report on it.
After that, the Council touched on the issue of the negative aspects associated with marriage, based on a request for general discussion submitted by several members.
Speaker of the Council affirmed the importance of discussing this issue, as the huge sums spent on wedding occasions have become a burden on Qatari families, unlike the situation of the fathers and grandfathers in the recent past, whose lives were simple and their occasions were characterized with convergence and compassion, not with bragging and ostentation.
Speaker of the Council pointed out that the costs of wedding ceremonies, that were held in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, were not accompanied by any exaggerated manifestations and were decreased significantly.
In this context, a number of members discussed the topic and explained the exaggerated manifestations of the various celebrations and overspending and provided a number of proposals and solutions to curb such phenomena.
After extensive discussions, the Council decided to form a temporary special committee to study these phenomena and develop controls and proposals to avoid and limit them.
The Council also reviewed a report on the participation of the Shura Council delegation in the work of the second Arab Parliament session of the second session of the third legislative term, and the accompanying meetings, which were held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
