DOHA: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated the outcomes of the comprehensive urban plan of the State of Qatar at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, yesterday. The ceremony was attended by the Ministers and many senior officials.
“The outcomes of the master plan resulted in the national development framework document, spatial development plans for municipalities and the creation of urban development centres based on public transport, which would contribute to supporting the state economy and directing investors towards the best places for development,” said Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, speaking during the inauguration ceremony.

He said that the inauguration of the outcomes of the master plan, adopted by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, comes in light of the unprecedented transformation in the planning of the policy and strategy of the future of Qatar, to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030 which has become a reference guide for all institutions, bodies and ministries in the development of strategies for different sectors in the country.
The Minister also announced the launch of a programme on land use and its planning requirements, which enables the landlords to access their plots of land online to know the uses of the plots and its planning requirements. The programme is first of its kind in the country and aims at promoting the principle of transparency.
“The master plan came after years of sincere efforts by those in charge of the plan, in cooperation with partners in various institutions and government agencies,” said the Minister. He said that Qatar National Vision 2030, and its main pillars — environmental, social, economic and human — have been and continue to be the approach of all sectors in the country, through which policies and strategies are formulated.
In this context, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment adopted a master plan for Qatar to serve as a spatial translation of Qatar’s National Vision and a governor for the future growth and expansion of the State.
“It has worked on the formulation of a national framework that includes a comprehensive set of strategies, policies, guidelines and work areas which ensure high standards of life for citizens and residents of Qatar,” the Minister added.
The Minister underlined that the rapid urban growth and the associated challenges prompted the Ministry of Municipality and Environment work hard in order to meet the needs of the society, in accordance with the policies and strategic plans that have been prepared to benefit the State and the entire society.
In this context, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has allocated lands to various sectors in the country, including industrial, economic and logistic zones, a range of central markets, agricultural complexes and livestock markets, as well as educational and health services and housing for workers, the Minister noted.
