Bahrain’s Satiawan lifts Kings International title

DOHA: Bahrain’s Heri Satiawan won the men’s singles title in the first Kings International Invitation Badminton tournament 2013, that was held at De Bakey High School in Doha. 

Satiawan defeated Achamad Rivai of Indonesia in a thrilling final. Rivai took the first game with excellent shots. 

However, Satiawan got his composure back and hit superb cross court smashes to win the game with set points 21-18, 21-18. 

It capped a remarkable day for Setiawan, as the Bahraini clinched the mixed doubles title with compatriot Rehana Abdul Latheef. 

The duo beat Wilfred Natividad and Abel Villaran of Philippines 21-16, 21-17

In a thrilling men’s double final, in what proved to be an entertaining match, Roopesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas of India beat Achamed Rivai and Hendra Setyo Nugruho of Indonesia 21-18, 21-16. 

After all the matches were played, the winning prizes were distributed by Linda M Oliver (Principal  and Director of Debakey High School), Salah Sulaiman SJ Al Abdullah (Sponsor of Kings Sports), Abdul Khader (Acon Travels), Joseph Mathew (Falcon Travels), Adbul Gafoor (Argon Global), Sijo Mathew(Al Deewan), Ashraf Usman (convener of the tournament) and KO George (president of the tournament).
