Doha: The 2015 Beach Volleyball World Championships in the Netherlands is guaranteed to be a ‘unique experience’, say the organisers of the event Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo).
Set to be held in June 2015 in four cities it will be contested by 192 contenders in both the men’s and women’s sections.
The President of Nevobo, Hans Nieukerke said Netherlands is famous for innovative ideas and the championship will be no different.
“A Beach Volleyball World Championship in the Netherlands with 451 kilometres of coastline we think there’s enough room for such a worldwide event. Our country is actually famous for its original, innovative ideas, and that goes for Nevobo too. We have developed innovative volleyball concepts over the past years, but we also think ‘out of the box’ when it comes to events organisation.”
“The 2015 Beach Volleyball World Championships is guaranteed to be a unique experience, not least because the event will take place in several locations in the Netherlands.
“With The Hague at the epicentre of the World Championships, the capital Amsterdam and Apeldoorn as two partnering host cities, and Rotterdam as the fourth match city, there is no doubt that everyone in the Netherlands will know that the tournament is being held in the country,” he added.
Explaining the reasons for hosting the championship in four cities he said: “The decision to have several host cities is in line with the desire to use the FIVB World Championships as a means of getting the whole of the Netherlands into beach volleyball. Playing in four major cities in the Netherlands is the foundation for a successful event with full stadiums. It will make it possible for larger groups of fans to witness the world championships. The event will not only get a great deal of attention in the national media, including television, but the regional media will provide exposure in their own regions, as well. The media attention will undoubtedly contribute to filling the stadiums for all of the matches,” the Nevobo official said.
When selecting the locations, due attention was also given to the ‘high volleyball density’ and spectator potential in the particular cities, Nieukerke said.
