Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) plans to invest QR38bn over the next five years to meet the demands of electricity and water in the country. The Corporation’s new projects will be able to meet future demands of electricity and water in the country.
“The projects’ budget has been reallocated for over the next five years with a total value of approximately QR38bn and fixed budget for the years after 2022 about QR6bn,” said Ibrahim Al Emadi, Director of Planning and Quality at Kahramaa.
Al Emadi was speaking at Kahramaa’s Annual Planning Forum 2017 held at Hilton Hotel yesterday under the theme “Kahramaa Towards Achieving the Goals & Creativity of Business Integration” to discuss the Corporation’s strategic plans 2018-2022.
“Kahramaa has adopted 18 ambitious project and has target to achieve it in 18 years,” said Al Emadi. He said that the roadmap is divided in three main phases. “First phase, that began in 2014, was for preparations and it is scheduled to end in 2018. Second phase will start from 2019 and will end in 2023. And third and final phase is expected to begin from 2024 and will end in 2030”, he added. “The last two phases will enable Qatar to secure prominent position regionally and globally respectively in term of providing utility to the people in the country,” he noted.
Speaking on the achievements of Kahramaa in 2017, Al Emadi said “electricity and water networks covered about 100 percent of total areas of the country and about 75 percent of strategic goals have been achieved this year.”
Al Emadi said that Kahramaa took several measures to reduce the impact of blockade including diversifying sources of import and dealing with multinational contractors from various countries and providing enough strategic reserve for strategic projects. He noted that so far, Kahramaa’s plan is on right direction and new projects will be able to meet the future demands of electricity and water in the country.
Speaking on the revenue of the Corporation, Al Emadi said that Kahramaa will be able to cover most of its operational costs in coming years excluding main projects. “Kahramaa took a number of steps to increase the revenue like installation of the smart meters and launching projects to influence the behaviors of the consumers to reduce the wastage,” he added In his address at the opening of the forum, Kahramaa President Eng Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said that Qatar National Vision 2030 and the seven recommendations in the speech of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the opening of the 46th session of the Advisory Council and the ten pillars of the second National Development Strategy 2017-2022 represent the frameworks and foundations upon which Kahramaa’s plan 2018-2022 is based.
Al Kuwari added that Kahramaa has adopted excellence in all six dimensions of its business, noting that Kahramaa has chosen the theme so as to continue its steps toward achieving its strategic objectives through creativity and innovation to ensure continuous development. He stressed that Kahramaa’s choice of the forum’s theme this year was preceded by a great work to achieve its objectives. Kahramaa established an incubator for creativity and innovation to create an innovative and creative environment not only for Kahramaa employees but for every creative person in all fields.
The opening session was followed by a number of sessions during which the Planning and Quality Department presented an overview of the future five-year plan followed by a review of the most important key indicators of Kahramaa, which include the affairs of electricity networks, water networks, technical affairs and common services, as well as institutional departments to present and discuss their 2018-2022 plan.
The meeting was attended by department directors, and section managers to review and discuss the company’s plans and projects during the next five years and review performance levels during the past year.
