Doha: Chairperson of Qatar Museums (QM), H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, announced the publication of her book, The Power of Culture, which is a collection of her reflections on Qatar’s cultural initiatives that have shaped and flourished the nation’s cultural landscape.
“They say life begins at 40! On the occasion of this milestone year, I am pleased to share with you all The Power of Culture — a series of personal reflections on the vast array of projects, past and present, that collectively have built a thriving cultural landscape and creative economy in Qatar,” she said.
She added: “From our museums and creative hubs that act as platforms for inspiration, innovation and creativity, to the work of our incredibly talented film makers, fashion designers, content creators, chefs, architects and artists, the possibility of what we can achieve is infinite. The future is bright and I look forward to continuing our journey to build, create and innovate for my beloved Qatar.”
She made the announcement on her official social media pages.
Sheikha Mayassa stated that she is dedicating the book to her father, brother, mother, husband, children, siblings, colleagues, and to individuals who have participated directly or indirectly to the success of FIFA World Cup 2022 Cultural Programme and the tournament.
“We are #bettertogether,” she concluded.
The text of the 240-page book is in Hindi, Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish, and English.
The book was regarded as “informative and readable” by ACC Art Books, one of the top publishers and distributors of books on the arts and visual culture in the world.
“Although one of the world’s smallest countries, Qatar punches well above its weight in terms of art and culture. It is home to innovative and striking pieces of public art as well as art-filled museums designed by world-famous architects. This is all part of a far- reaching plan to focus on becoming a culture-based, rather than carbon-based, economy – a plan which Sheikha Mayassa has spearheaded on every level.”
