Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has planned to upgrade two major flyovers of the country — Midmac Flyover on Salwa Road and Industrial Area Flyover to ease traffic flow.

“Midmac Flyover and Industrial Area Flyover will be upgraded in a big way similar to the Passport Office Flyover (commonly known as Jawazat Flyover). The roundabout under both flyovers will be closed and the traffic signals will be upgraded. Entry and exit points of intersections will be expanded,” said Assistant Director of Road Projectors Department at Ashghal, Eng. Salem Al Shawi.

Speaking in a Qatar TV programme ‘Al Ghabqa’, Al Shawi said that the development works of Muaither street will be completed by the end of this year.

Al Shawi was replying to a question about the opening of the street which has been witnessing the development works for many years.

“Muaither street is receiving a comprehensive development works including main lanes serving to the area. The main lane has been completed. During coming months, the remaining works will be completed and by the end of this year the project will be finished,” said Al Shawi.

Speaking about providing services to land plots in citizens’ sub-divisions, Al Shawi said that Ashghal provided services to 39,000 land plots in 14 areas across the country.

He said that the services include a complete infrastructure development like road, drainage, lighting and other services.

“The Public Works Authority is now implementing 34 projects to provide services to 32,000 land plots in citizens’ sub-divisions,” said Assistant Director of Road Projectors Department at Ashghal.

Earlier, Ashghal had announced the commencement of works on the Roads and Infrastructure Project in South Al Meshaf (Package 9) which is part of Ashghal’s plan to implement infrastructure projects for citizens’ subdivisions in the southern regions of the country.

On completion, the project will develop a 23km-long network of internal streets in the area and a 9.5km pedestrian and cycle track, equipped with road safety features and street lighting as well as road signs and marks, to regulate the traffic flow and enhance safety on the roads.

This is in addition to upgrading infrastructure facilities to respond to residents’ needs and urban growth in the future.
