DOHA: Al Mazrouh Farmer’s Market in Umm Salal will offer meat, poultry and dairy products fresh from local farms at reasonable prices from today under a three-day festival, said the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The products will be available at lower prices at the festival, a trader told The Peninsula.
The festival “animal products” will run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7am to 5pm only at Al Mazrouh Yard to promote local products, said a release.
The festival is being organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by the Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs Department.
Many local companies and farms for trading and producing meat, poultry and dairy products will participate in the festival in collaboration with Animal Affairs Department at the Ministry.
Traders have readied their pavilions at the space allocated by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment at Al Mazrouh Yard, a trader told The Peninsula.
“We have made all necessary arrangements like mobilising refrigerators and other necessary equipment to showcase poultry products from our farm in large quantity at the festival,” Amin Khan from a poultry farm told The Peninsula.
He said that the company will be offering eggs and fresh (chilled) and frozen chicken at lower prices compare to other places in the local market adding that a kilogram of fresh (chilled) chicken will be available at QR18.25 and frozen at QR14.75 per kg.
“A crate of eggs will be available at QR16.25 at our pavilion,” said Khan.
He said that eggs and chickens will be also available in large packs in various sizes from 700gm to 1,000gm.
“We will be offering chicken parts like drum sticks, breasts and livers in separate packages at attractive prices,” said Khan.
The festival is part of a slew of activities being organised at farmers’ winter vegetable markets to promote local products. The festival of animal products also aims at encouraging farmers to increase their products and to supply varieties of Qatari products to local markets.
The festival provides platform to local farms to sell their products directly to the customers so the consumers can get fresh local produce on reasonable prices and traders get good yields for their hard work and investments as there is no middlemen or brokers.
