In support of World Cancer Day, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has launched an awareness campaign on social media.
World Cancer Day which is commemorated on February 4, unites the world population in the fight against cancer. It aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease, pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action.
HMC has joined the worldwide initiative against cancer to raise awareness of the disease amongst the general public in order to save lives and reduce the number of preventable deaths each year.
Under this year’s theme ‘We can. I can,’ HMC draws attention to what can be done to address cancer and lessen its devastating impact. The aim is to prevent cancer and avoidable deaths and suffering.
With the hashtag #WeCanICan and #HamadWorldCancerDay HMC has shared awareness messages on its Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Awareness messages such as Quit Smoking, Be Active and Consume healthy food to reduce cancer risk and live longer have been shared by HMC on social networking sites.
“At HMC, we support WCD’s efforts in striving for positive and radical change. This is our chance to encourage people to take action for themselves, their family, their community and their country. Everyone can make a difference and inspire others. ‘We can. I can.’ beat cancer, overcome its consequences and most importantly help prevent cancer,” says HMC on its Facebook page.
“Equipping individuals and communities with appropriate and adequate knowledge about the strong relationship between lifestyle and cancer can empower people to make informed choices and adopt a healthy lifestyle. As a result, it is important to spread the word that most cancers can be prevented by adopting healthy behaviors,” it added.
While, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), through its ‘Screen for Life’ program, is urging the people to undergo screening for breast and bowel cancer coinciding of World Cancer Day.
“On the occasion of World Cancer Day we would like to remind the people of Qatar of the importance of the breast and bowel cancer screening,” said Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager at PHCC.
The three PHCC screening facilities can be found in Rawdat Al Khail Health Center, the Leabaib Health Center and Al Wakra Health Center, while the Mobile Screening Unit is accessible to a multitude of communities across the country offering mammogram services to eligible ladies.
