This is the concluding part of my opinion piece yesterday about the recent move of the US in the region and the possible consequences of the US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the nuclear agreement with Iran.

In such a complex reality of the region, we hope that the Gulf region will not become an arena for settling scores, especially by countries that failed to manage their direct or proxy wars.

These countries have not been able to defend their strategic interests and lost stances and relations with states and entities that have been considered supportive to them. Additionally, entities have long been allies to these countries, but the misguided policies and unwise decisions, have turned them into burden for these counties and their political balances. Thus, their regional and global roles have been under test in light of what is going on the ground.

Here we call upon the bright minds in our Gulf region to work on uncovering the facts and trying to reform the orientations and decisions that do not serve the region and will put the future of the region under risks.

We, in Qatar, are enjoying the prosperous condition of our country having all necessities needed for a decent life under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, after we have  learned from the siege crisis, the high level of jealousy shown by some countries towards the prosperity enjoyed by the people of Qatar.

Our wise leadership did not reject the efforts of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, to resolve the current Gulf crisis since the hacking incident of Qatar News Agency, but Qatar supported this mediation under the respect and great appreciation we have for H H the Amir of Kuwait.

However, our sovereignty and our national decision remain a red line whether the siege ends soon or prolongs. This is what we observed during the meeting of H H the Amir and President Trump last month at the White House and his quick response that Qatar does not support terrorism and works with the international community to eradicate it.

The response of H H indicates self-confidence and that Qatar does not hide anything and has welcomed all efforts seeking to heal the rift. Qatar will remain an oasis of safety, a beacon of science and development for the future generations.
