In recent years, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) has launched a number of initiatives to streamline job market by providing job opportunities to citizens and also attract skilled workforce in the country. The MoL,in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior last month issued the updated version of the Occupational Description and Classification Guide for the Private Sector (Qatari Standard Classification of Occupations). The update reflects the Ministry’s continuous efforts to monitor the latest job titles emerging in the labour market. The updated guide, which includes 3,717 job titles, was developed with the contributions of various organisations, including the Ministry of Interior. Meanwhile, Qatar Manpower Solutions Co (Jusour) is revitalising Qatar’s job market through a number of initiatives to promote innovation and attract and retain skilled workforce in the country. Since its establishment, Jusour — a company wholly-owned by the government of Qatar — has launched a number of programmes for skills enhancement, innovation and aiding Qatar’s sustainable economic development. An important initiative the company has launched is ‘Sahem’, which aims to support students graduating from universities in Qatar by offering them the opportunity to gain a one-year visa extension in Qatar while looking for jobs. Under this programme, students currently enrolled at universities in Qatar can also look and apply for part-time work. In December last year, the Ministry in collaboration with Microsoft, announced the launch of the MOL360 Initiative. This marks a key milestone in the Ministry’s digital transformation journey and a significant step towards achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The Ministry in collaboration with the Qatar Finance and Business Academy also organised the fourth edition of the “Jahez” Career Readiness Programme on December 11, 2024. The programme aimed at qualifying Qatari men and women, enhancing their professional readiness, leadership skills, and teamwork abilities, developing their creative thinking, and improving their chances of securing desired job opportunities. This will help them achieve their career goals and succeed in their diverse career paths. The Ministry in collaboration with the Career Development Student Association at Qatar University and in partnership with the Qatar Career Development Centre, held the second edition of the Career Camp for university students last year. The initiative aims to empower graduating students and equip them with the skills necessary to excel in the labour market.
