Qatar’s vibrant sports calendar

Qatar is set for another dynamic year of sports with thrilling events set to unfold throughout the year at its world-class venues. From high-stakes football matches to prestigious indoor competitions, the country is again poised to host an exciting lineup of international events. The Qatar Olympic Committee’s (QOC) 2025 calendar, recently revealed, includes 84 events, 15 of which are world-class championships, reinforcing Qatar’s status as a global sports hub. Among the key events are the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships, taking place from May 17 to 27 at Lusail Multipurpose Arena, Qatar University Arena, and Qatar Sports Arena, and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, set for November 5 to 27 across the stadiums used for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The sporting year kicks off with the King of the Court beach volleyball finals in January, followed by a busy February that includes the Beach Pro Tour Elite16, Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, Qatar ExxonMobil Open and Qatar TotalEnergies Open. Also scheduled for February are the H H The Amir’s Shooting Cup and the Lusail Shotgun Championship. April will see the FIG Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup, bringing top athletes in both men’s and women’s gymnastics events to the stage. In June, the FIBA 3x3 U23 Youth League will take place, while the Q-Terminals Qatar Classic squash tournament is scheduled for September 28 to October 4. The calendar features 36 major international competitions, such as the Al Shaqab International League (FEI Group 7 qualifier), WTT Star Contender, Qatar Fencing Grand Prix, Qatar International Optimist Sailing Championship, H H The Amir’s Sword Equestrian Festival, Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab presented by Longines, Doha Diamond League, Qatar Open Taekwondo Championship, and the Qatar Weightlifting Cup. The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club will also host the H H The Amir’s Sword Horse Racing Festival. At the Asian level, Qatar will host 14 events, including the Asian Beach Volleyball Championship, FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers, West Asia One-Day Athletics Championship, West Asia Badminton Championship, and Asian Padel Championship. Regional competitions will include the FIFA Arab Cup, taking place from December 1 to 18, as well as Gulf events like the GCC Men’s Tennis Championship, GCC Padel Team Championship, and GCC Youth and Junior Athletics Championship. In addition to these high-profile competitions, there will also be local and community events, including National Sport Day, the QOC Half-Marathon, various H H The Amir Cup finals, the Olympic Schools Program closing ceremony and World Olympic Day, ensuring something for every sports enthusiast. Motorsport fans will also be treated to high-octane action at the Lusail International Circuit, with events including the 1812 KM World Endurance Championship, Grand Prix of Qatar (MotoGP) and Qatar Grand Prix (Formula One). The Qatar Racing Club will also host a series of thrilling contests, alongside continuing domestic events like the Qatar Stars League.
